Federal Court Restores Harvard Funding After Trump Cuts. A US federal judge has overturned billions in research funding cuts imposed on Harvard University by the Trump administration. Judge Allison Burroughs ruled that the government violated Harvard’s free speech rights when it froze around $2 billion in grants earlier this year. The funding had been withheld amid allegations of antisemitism, radical left ideologies, and racial bias. While three other Ivy League universities – Columbia, Penn, and Brown – negotiated to keep their funding without going to court, Harvard challenged the decision. Judge Burroughs blocked the government from withholding existing grants and barred any further cuts, calling the administration’s actions a violation of the First Amendment. The White House has vowed to appeal denouncing the ruling and accusing the judge, appointed by former President Obama, of being an “activist.”.
