Rian Johnson would "feel blessed" to make another Star Wars movie. The Knives Out director, who made his Star Wars debut with 2017's The Last Jedi, made the revelation as he discussed the future of the sci-fi series following the exit of Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy earlier this month. ”I love Kathy. I am excited now to see what she does next," Johnson told Variety at the Sundance Film Festival. ”As a Star Wars fan, the most exciting thing for me is always seeing when they bring in fresh voices and fresh filmmakers to come in and tell new stories in that world. That's what I am looking forward to seeing more happen.” He continued, "I had the time of my life doing it. I am now an even bigger Star Wars fan than I was when going into it. I would feel blessed if that were to ever happen (again).” After The Last Jedi, Johnson was set to develop another Star Wars project, but it never came to fruition, and he ended up making three Knives Out movies instead. In an exit interview with Deadline earlier this month, Kennedy explained that Johnson became "completely consumed" by the Knives Out films and they "occupied a huge amount of his time”. She also speculated that he "got spooked" by the negativity surrounding The Last Jedi. However, Johnson denied her version of events on X, writing, "Lol zero spooked, sorry (sic).” After releasing his most recent Knives Out film, Wake Up Dead Man, last year, Johnson is now taking a break from the franchise and working on a paranoid thriller, although he hopes to return to his murder-mystery series in the future. Kennedy, who has been replaced by Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan, will continue to produce movies.
