Ceasefire Broken: Israel Launches Airstrikes on Gaza. Israel launched airstrikes across Gaza after accusing Hamas of violating the US-brokered ceasefire agreement. Defence Minister Israel Katz said Hamas attacked Israeli soldiers and broke terms related to the return of hostage bodies. Hamas denied involvement in any attacks and insisted it remains committed to the ceasefire deal. Gaza’s Civil Defence reported at least nine Palestinians killed in strikes across Gaza City and Khan Younis. One strike hit a home in Gaza City’s Sabra neighbourhood, killing four people, including three women. The escalation followed a dispute over a coffin returned by Hamas containing remains not belonging to a listed hostage. The ceasefire, part of Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan, began on 10 October and included a major hostage exchange. Since Israel’s 2023 military campaign began, more than 68,500 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
