Open Wide! Elephant Gets 'Filling' After Keepers Spot Tusk Cavity. An African elephant at a Somerset zoo has received specialist dental care after keepers spotted a hole in his tusk. Uli, a young bull at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm near Bristol, was treated by world-renowned wildlife dentist Peter Kertesz. The procedure involved cleaning, drilling, and sealing the tusk with resin to prevent further damage. Head keeper Tom Lindley said the treatment was only possible thanks to the strong bond between Uli and his carers. Months of training meant Uli stayed calm throughout — and was rewarded with bananas and cabbage. Dentist Kertesz confirmed the tusk is now healthy and should be fine for years. The elephants live in a 20-acre habitat, the largest of its kind in northern Europe.
