Andy Murray will retire after the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 37-year-old will compete in singles and doubles at his fifth and final Games. He announced on X: ”Arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament. Competing for Team GB has been the most memorable weeks of my career, and I'm extremely proud to do it one final time!” Murray first appeared in the Olympics in Beijing 2008 but exited in the first round. He won gold at London 2012, defeating Roger Federer and made history in Rio 2016 by winning a second singles gold. After career-saving hip surgery in 2019, he played Wimbledon one last time this year, despite a back injury. Murray expressed his struggle, saying: ”It's hard because I want to keep playing, but I can't. Physically it's too tough now. I want to play forever. I love the sport.” Throughout his professonal career he won 46 single titles, with 3 of those being grand slams titles, 2 Wimbledon and 1 us open.
