Bears Escape Enclosure At Devon Wildlife Park And Raid Honey Stores. Two European brown bears escaped their enclosure at a Devon wildlife park on Monday 23 June 2025 - and headed straight for a honey store. The Wildwood Trust park, a conservation charity based near Exeter, said bears Mish and Lucy broke free and consumed what staff described as “a week’s worth of honey” during their brief time on the loose. “Two young bears escaped from their enclosure at Wildwood Devon this (Monday) afternoon, heading straight for their food store,” a statement released by park staff reads. “Mish and Lucy (both 5 years), who posed no threat to the public at any point, enjoyed a selection of snacks - including a week's worth of honey before being safely returned to their enclosure by the expert keeper team within the hour.” 16 people, including children, were secured inside a play barn for their safety. Armed wildlife staff and local police responded to the incident although park officials stress that at no point was the public in danger. The bears remained calm and did not enter any public areas, instead exploring the back of the bear house and sniffing around a food store. Mish returned to the enclosure of her own accord, while Lucy was enticed back using a bell and her favourite treats. This marks the first incident of its kind at the park. An investigation will now be held into how the bears got free. Mish and Lucy were rescued as orphans from Albania in 2019.
