Eriksen Conscious After Collapsing During Denmark Friendly. Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen is conscious and recovering after collapsing during Denmark’s friendly match against Ukraine in Odense. The game was stopped in the 65th minute and later abandoned after the 34-year-old received medical treatment on the pitch. Denmark’s team doctor said Eriksen briefly lost consciousness but regained it quickly and was able to walk off the field on his own. Doctors said his implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) appeared to function as intended during the incident. Eriksen was fitted with the device after suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland in 2021. The midfielder, who currently plays for VfL Wolfsburg, was making his 151st appearance for Denmark when he collapsed. Players from both teams formed a protective circle around Eriksen while medics treated him, echoing scenes from the European Championship five years ago. Denmark officials said Eriksen is in good spirits and undergoing further hospital tests to determine the cause of the incident.
