Israel Strikes Beirut Despite Hezbollah Ceasefire. Israel has launched its first strike on Beirut since agreeing to a ceasefire with Hezbollah in April, raising fears the conflict could escalate again. The airstrike targeted Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahieh, a Hezbollah stronghold with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying the attack was aimed at a commander from Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force. The strike caused heavy damage in Beirut’s southern suburbs, while local reports said members of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force were meeting when the attack happened. Although a ceasefire was announced months ago, both Israel and Hezbollah continue accusing each other of violations. Lebanon says more than 120 people have been killed in Israeli strikes over the past week, while Hezbollah has continued rocket and drone attacks on Israeli forces. Netanyahu warned that “no terrorist is immune,” as tensions across the region continue to rise.
