Kendrick Lamar reveals the first time he 'allowed' himself to cry. The 37-year-old rapper shared that as he has grown older, he has learned to let himself feel his emotions more freely. During a recent chat for Harper's Bazaar, R&B singer SZA asked Kendrick when he first allowed himself to cry. ”The first time I allowed it to happen is documented, actually, onstage (in 2011) when (Dr.) Dre and Snoop (Dogg) and the whole West Coast was out, and they was like, 'This is the torch that we were handing off.” "Dre passed me the torch, and a burst of energy just came out and I had to let it flow.” Kendrick noted that he was grateful the emotional moment was caught on camera. ”My tears is all on the internet. And now I look back and I love that moment. I love that that happened. Because it showed me in real time expressing myself and seeing all the work that I put forth actually come to life in that moment.” The Alright rapper also revealed that the last time he shed a tear was when he recorded his 2022 song Mother I Sober, a personal and vulnerable song which explores themes of addiction, intergenerational trauma and sexual abuse. ”That s**t was deep for me.”
