FCC Approves $8 Billion Skydance-Paramount Merger. The US Federal Communications Commission has officially approved the $8 billion merger between Skydance Media and Paramount Global, paving the way for one of the biggest shake-ups in Hollywood. The deal, announced in 2024, merges the independent studio behind hits like Top Gun: Maverick with one of the industry's oldest entertainment giants. FCC Chair Brendan Carr, appointed by President Trump, confirmed the approval on Thursday and welcomed Skydance’s commitment to overhaul CBS, a Paramount subsidiary. The merger follows a $16 million settlement Paramount paid to the president over a CBS interview with Kamala Harris. Broadcast licenses for 28 CBS-owned stations will now transfer to Skydance, though a completion date hasn't been announced. Carr added that public trust in legacy news outlets is declining and that “it is time for a change”.
