Waymo to Bring Robotaxi Service to Dallas by 2026. Alphabet’s autonomous vehicle unit, Waymo, has announced it will launch its self-driving ride-hailing service in Dallas in 2026—marking a major step forward in its U.S. expansion. The move comes as Tesla also ramps up its robotaxi ambitions. Waymo's Dallas service will be supported by a multi-year partnership with Avis Budget Group, which will handle fleet operations, maintenance, and infrastructure. Currently, Waymo operates around 1,500 autonomous vehicles, completing over 250,000 paid trips per week, across Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Austin—where it runs exclusively through Uber. Tesla recently began its own small-scale trial in Austin using modified Model Ys, with plans to expand once regulatory approvals come through in states like California and Florida. Despite the broader challenges in commercializing autonomous tech, Waymo remains a leader in the space, being the only company running fully paid, driverless rides in the U.S., and plans to expand into Miami and D.C. by 2026.
