BMW has recently conducted a successful trial involving the use of humanoid robots at one of its manufacturing plants. Over several weeks, the humanoid robot Figure 02, developed by the California-based company Figure, was tested at the BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in California. During the trial, the robot efficiently inserted sheet metal parts into specific fixtures, which were subsequently assembled as part of the vehicle chassis. The use of such robots aims to alleviate workers from performing ergonomically challenging and fatiguing tasks. The trial is part of BMW's broader vision to improve production efficiency and worker safety by adopting new technologies. The trial offered valuable insights into how these robots can be integrated into existing production systems. BMW and Figure plan to further develop the robot for future use, focusing on enhancing its capabilities based on the trial's results.
