Lead Ship of Gaza-Bound Flotilla Struck by Drone off Tunisia, Activists Say. The leading ship of the Global Sumud Flotilla, the Portuguese-flagged “Family Boat,” was reportedly struck by a drone at the Tunisian port of Sidi Bou Said. Videos posted by the flotilla show a luminous flying object hitting the boat, landing on lifejackets; no crew members were injured. Tunisian authorities denied a drone strike, stating that a fire broke out on the vessel itself. The strike occurred around midnight while one crew member livestreamed, with smoke rising from the main deck and storage below. The flotilla carried aid and activists, including climate activist Greta Thunberg, aiming to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza. The Global Sumud Flotilla confirmed that the aggression will not deter their mission, emphasizing their peaceful intent and solidarity with Gaza. UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese noted that if verified, the drone attack would be an assault on Tunisia and stressed past threats against the flotilla. The convoy, composed of around 50 boats from 44 countries, had recently left Barcelona and Genoa before arriving in Tunisian waters. The incident came hours before Israel ordered a complete evacuation of northern Gaza City amid ongoing military operations.
