IKEA has used artificial intelligence to envision potential home designs in the year 2030. In their recently unveiled 10th edition of the IKEA Life at Home Report, the company presents three potential scenarios for the next decade. Utilising AI-generated imagery in partnership with PJADAD, the project vividly depicts the lives of three fictional individuals, Jin, Angela, and Jamie. The scenarios introduce intriguing narratives, such as holographic house parties bringing together friends from afar, bio-solar wallpaper harnessing algae to generate electricity from sunlight and chairs crafted by 3D printers using a mushroom compound. In the first scenario, called 'Home on the Go,' individuals like Jin embrace a constantly changing lifestyle. They furnish their homes to promote well-being, offering entertainment and solitude as needed. In the second scenario, 'Resilient Communities,' the global population is decentralised into distinct communities with limited connections. People choose to live with those who share similar values, parenting styles, or cultural preferences. In the final scenario 'A Nurtured Home,' the future has adapted to the planet's climate crisis. International policies have led to interconnected eco-initiatives, and smart home systems are widely adopted to promote resource efficiency.
