France Recognises Palestinian State, Calls for Two-State Solution at UN. France has formally recognised a Palestinian state, with President Emmanuel Macron telling the UN General Assembly that "the time for peace has come" and that the war in Gaza must end. France and Saudi Arabia co-hosted a one-day summit in New York focused on reviving a two-state solution. Several European nations, including Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Andorra and San Marino, are set to follow, while the UK, Canada, Australia and Portugal announced recognition earlier this week. Macron said peace required both a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages, warning against the "peril of endless wars". He also signaled France's readiness to support a stabilisation mission and a transitional administration led by the Palestinian Authority. Israel has condemned the move, arguing recognition rewards Hamas. Prime Minister Netanyahu insists no Palestinian state will be created west of the Jordan River. The UN's Secretary General and EU leaders, however, reiterated that a two-state solution remains the only credible path to peace.
