Thailand’s parliament has selected Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of former leader Thaksin Shinawatra, as the new Prime Minister. At just 37, she becomes Thailand's youngest Prime Minister and the second woman to hold the position following her aunt Yingluck Shinawatra. Her appointment comes shortly after the constitutional court dismissed former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. Paetongtarn now faces the formidable challenge of reviving Thailand’s economy and steering the country through a political landscape marked by military coups and court interventions, which have previously unseated four governments led by her party, the Pheu Thai Party. “I really hope that I can make people feel confident that we can build opportunities and to improve the qualify of life and to empower all Thais,” With 319 votes in favor and 145 against, she is the fourth member of the Shinawatra family to serve as Prime Minister in the last two decades.
