Ryan Gosling explains why his daughters haven't seen Barbie. While Esmerelda, nine, and Amada, seven, helped the La La Land actor prepare for his acclaimed role, he isn't sure if they're ready to see him bring the toy doll to life. ”I don't know if you should watch your father as Ken," Ryan told E! News. "I don't know what age is a good age to see your father do that. It gets pretty crazy.” While they haven't seen the full movie, his daughters, whom he shares with actress Eva Mendes, got to see a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Ken's standout musical number when they visited him on set in London. "They've seen little parts of it and they came to set one day when I did a big musical number," he added. Ryan, 43, went on to explain that he felt Barbie "was a way to sort of make something both for and with them" because they both love the toy dolls. "I knew that they loved it because they kept saying at first, 'Hey, can we go to Target?'" he recalled. "And we go to Target, and then they'd slowly go by the Barbie aisle. And my wife and I sort of realised, 'OK, I think it's time to let them have Barbies.' And no interest in Ken, which was pretty interesting, too.” Ryan has been nominated for a bunch of awards for Barbie including a Golden Globe, Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guild Awards. He seemed hilariously puzzled when his musical number, I'm Just Ken, won Best Song at the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday. THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
