Burnham To Host Zelensky As First Foreign Leader In Office. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham will welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday as the first foreign leader to visit since he took office. The two leaders will meet at a UK naval base to discuss British support for Ukraine and observe military training programmes. Burnham and Zelensky will also meet more than 200 Ukrainian personnel taking part in Exercise Sea Breeze, focused on maritime security and mine countermeasures. Burnham said Britain's support for Ukraine remains unwavering and pledged to continue backing Kyiv until a just and lasting peace is achieved. The UK says its total support for Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion has reached £25 billion, including £16 billion in military assistance. The package also includes £5.6 billion in non-military support for Ukraine. The visit highlights the new British government's commitment to maintaining close ties with Kyiv amid the ongoing war. Former Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited Kyiv shortly before leaving office, announcing further military support, including funding to help equip Ukraine with Gripen fighter jets.
