Norwegian Court Accepts Appeal by Mette-Marit’s Son Over Rape Convictions. A Norwegian appeals court has accepted Marius Borg Høiby’s appeal against his conviction for rape and domestic violence, meaning parts of the case will be heard again. Høiby, the 29-year-old son of Queen Mette-Marit, was sentenced in June to four years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of rape, domestic violence and other offences. He had originally faced four rape charges but was acquitted in two of those cases. His appeal challenges the two rape convictions as well as the ruling that he repeatedly abused a former girlfriend. Høiby’s lawyer, Petar Sekulic, welcomed the decision and said he had expected the appeal to be accepted. The appeals court said it would begin preparations for the new proceedings, although no date has yet been set and the case could be heard next year. Until a final decision is reached, Høiby remains under electronic monitoring at the royal family’s Skaugum estate, where he is serving his pre-trial detention under house arrest. The decision comes shortly after he was granted permission to leave the estate to attend the funeral of King Harald V, his step-grandfather, in Oslo on Wednesday.
