US House Approves $70 Billion Immigration Enforcement Package. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a massive $70 billion funding bill for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, and the Border Patrol, giving President Donald Trump a major victory on immigration policy. The measure cleared the House in a narrow 214-to-212 vote, largely along party lines, and now heads to the White House for Trump’s signature after already passing the Senate. The legislation ends months of political deadlock over immigration funding that contributed to a partial Department of Homeland Security shutdown earlier this year. Republicans pushed the bill through using a fast-track budget process, while Democrats opposed the package, citing concerns over immigration enforcement and calls for agency reforms. Several controversial provisions, including funding for a White House ballroom and a proposed anti-weaponization compensation fund, were ultimately removed or dropped before final approval. The bill will fund ICE and Border Patrol operations through the remainder of Trump’s current term in office.
