Caption: Prosecutors Want to Recharge Alec Baldwin for 'Rust' Shooting. NPR reports that prosecutors plan to bring a criminal case against Alec Baldwin for the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The case will reportedly be brought before a New Mexico Grand Jury. Baldwin has maintained that he should not be held responsible for Hutchins' death, and prosecutors dropped involuntary manslaughter charges five months ago. Previously, prosecutors said that the gun Baldwin was holding at the time of the shooting may have been modified and could have malfunctioned. Since those initial charges were dropped, prosecutors conducted further analysis, the results of which are behind the push for refiling charges. "After [an] extensive investigation over the past several months, additional facts have come to light that we believe show Mr. Baldwin has criminal culpability in the death of Halyna Hutchins and the shooting of Joel Souza.", "We believe the appropriate course of action is to permit a panel of New Mexico citizens to determine from here whether Mr. Baldwin should be held over for criminal trial.", Kari T. Morrissey and Jason J. Lewis, New Mexico prosecutors, via NPR. In response to the prosecutors' latest statement, Baldwin's legal team vowed to fight the charges and prove the actor's innocence. "It is unfortunate that a terrible tragedy has been turned into this misguided prosecution. We will answer any charges in court.", Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, Attorneys representing Alec Baldwin, via NPR. In February, the film's armorer is scheduled to go on trial after pleading not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence.
