Caption: 40 States at Risk of Severe Weather as Winter Storm Rolls In. Days after a winter storm slammed the Northeast U.S., the Southeast and East Coast are set to endure similar conditions, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). For many, the "first accumulated snow of the season" is at hand, 'The Hill' reports. "Initially, the storm is likely to bring a burst of heavy snow and perhaps a period of ice or wintry mix across parts of the central Appalachians and New England for a time on Tuesday." Forecasters warn that flooding is also likely. "But, the most notable impact from the upcoming storm will be high winds and flooding rainfall.", AccuWeather senior meteorologist Dan Pydynowski, via statement. "Widespread and potentially significant river and flash flooding are likely for the central Gulf Coast and Eastern U.S. through early Wednesday." "Powerful onshore winds will lead to widespread coastal flooding along the eastern Gulf Coast and much of the East Coast." Beginning Jan. 8, severe thunderstorms with the chance of tornadoes will reach the Southeast. "There is an Enhanced Risk of Severe Thunderstorms across the central Gulf Coast tonight into early Tuesday morning. Severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and tornadoes are expected from southeast Texas across the central Gulf Coast this afternoon into early Tuesday morning." National Weather Service, via statement. Parts of New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Nebraska will likely be hit with a blizzard on Jan. 9, according to forecasters. Travel is expected to be "extremely dangerous to impossible" during that time. THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
