Caption: These are the winning images in the world’s most prestigious sports photography awards. Designed to recognise and celebrate incredible sports images and the photographers who take them the World Sports Photography Awards tell compelling stories of the emotion, passion, athleticism and focus that are at the heart of sport. This year's overall winning image captured by photographer Patrick Smith showed the spectacular moment sport and nature collided showing golfer Lee Westwood seemingly standing on clouds. In second place was another powerful image documenting the incredible force of nature and sporting prowess showing French surfer Justine Dupont dwarfed by a gigantic wave, snapped by Octávio Passos. Phil Noble came in third for his picture of Trinidad and Tobago runner Jereem Richards celebrating winning gold in the men’s 200m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The photos are among 24 winning images across sports categories including American Football, Basketball, Cycling, Gymnastics and Football. More than 700 professional sports photographers from over 70 countries around the world entered the competition this year.
