Headline: UNCAPTIONED: Unity Apologizes For Controversial Install Fee Policy

Caption: Unity Apologizes For Controversial Install Fee Policy. IGN reports that Unity has issued an apology for the "confusion and angst the runtime fee policy" it announced last week. The statement on Twitter/X added that the company will be "making changes" to the new policy. According to Unity, the company is planning to change course on the controversial policy. While the company's post failed to detail what those changes might be, it did say that another update would be released in "a couple of days". "We have heard you. We apologize for the confusion and angst the runtime fee policy we announced on Tuesday caused." "We are listening, talking to our team members, community, customers, and partners, and will be making changes to the policy. We will share an update in a couple of days. Thank you for your honest and critical feedback.", Unity statement, via Twitter/X. As of January 1, 2024, Unity users would be charged $0.20 for installing any game with over 200,000 installs. IGN reports that the term "install" has led to the controversy surrounding the new policy, leaving users wondering if devs will be charged for multiple installs. At the time, Unity said that "90% of customers will not be affected by this change". Despite this claim, the dev community strongly opposed the policy, with some even claiming they would no longer make games in Unity.
