Ford Recalls 200,000 EVs, UK Models Affected by Safety Defect. Ford has issued a major recall affecting 200,000 Mustang Mach-E EVs, including some models in the UK, due to a safety defect. The recall is prompted by a software issue that could leave passengers trapped inside the vehicle if the battery is low. The electronic door latches may remain locked after the driver or front passenger exits, potentially trapping someone inside, including children. Ford has not specified how many UK Mustang Mach-E cars are affected, but will notify impacted customers soon. Affected vehicles may display a "system off to save power" warning or show a blank SYNC screen when the car is in the "off" position. Drivers may also find the inside release handle of the front door requires extra effort to unlatch. While no accidents or injuries have been reported, some drivers have been locked out of their vehicles. Ford plans to update the software in affected vehicles, including the Powertrain Control Module and Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module.
