Headline: Floating Bamboo Homes Aim To Combat Climate Change

Caption: **RAW VIDEO** Vietnamese studio H&P Architects have created a prototype for a floating bamboo home designed to withstand rising sea levels caused by climate change. The Floating Bamboo House, aims to provide residents of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam with homes that will remain livable if the sea level rises as the world warms. It is a three-compartment home, with a square ground floor that measures six by six metres and a first-floor storey in its roof. The home is inspired by the vernacular Rông house, a traditional and rural Vietnamese building. It is made of locally sourced solid-core bamboo pieces and segments are joined together with latches and ties to create the structural frame of the building. On the outside, the prototype is covered with lightweight bamboo screens, woven bamboo sheets, leaves and corrugated iron. Plastic drums underneath enable it to float, where a septic tank, a filter tank, and water tank are also kept. The Floating Bamboo House also has a door system that can open and close flexibly to provide shelter from extreme weather. The floor panels that create the upper storey can also be removed, so it can be used as a communal like a classroom, library or meeting room. Its huge roof allows residents to collect rainwater and harness solar energy. H&P Architects hopes that the homes can be attached together to form a floating village. The project was self-initiated by H&P founder Đoàn Thanh Hà in 2015 using funding from a charity called Architecture & Social Responsibility (ASR) Foundation. It was sponsored by Samsung Foundation of Culture in 2022 and has been exhibited at the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul, South Korea.
