Caption: In-N-Out Imposes New Policy Banning Employees From Wearing Masks. Employees at some In-N-Out stores will no longer be allowed to wear masks, according to new company guidelines that, “emphasize the importance of customer service.” An email was sent to workers, stating that employees who want to wear masks must have a, “valid medical note exempting him or her from this requirement," CNN reports. The new policy will impact employees in five states. Those five states are Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Texas and Utah. CNN reports that a majority of In-N-Out locations are found in California, a state where the company can't ban employees from wearing masks. In California and Oregon, another state where the company can't ban masks, In-N-Out said it would provide N95 masks for any employee who wants them. "We are introducing new mask guidelines that emphasizes the importance of customer service and the ability to show our associates’ smiles and other facial features while considering the health and well-being of all individuals." "Our goal is to continue to provide safe and customer-centric store and support environments that balance two things that In-N-Out is known for — exceptional customer service and unmatched standards for health, safety and quality." In-N-Out memo, via CNN. The decision comes several months after President Joe Biden officially ended the national emergency put in place amid the COVID pandemic. CNN reports that while statewide mask mandates have been lifted, health experts say that vulnerable individuals may want to stay masked in public settings.
