Caption: US Faces Heat Wave With Record-Breaking Temperatures Forecast. CNN reports that millions of people from the Midwest to the Northeast are facing scorching temperatures amid the world's hottest month in over 100,000 years. In Arizona, the number of deaths from heat-related complications is on the rise. In Maricopa County, 25 heat-associated deaths have already been reported in 2023, with dozens of other deaths still under investigation. "While we typically see a surge in heat-related deaths in July, we won't know how many… we have this year until forensic pathologists complete their investigations.", Jessie Caraveoa, Maricopa County spokesperson, via CNN. Heat indexes, which take into account relative humidity, are expected to reach between 105 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit on July 28. CNN reports that overnight temperatures are not expected to get below the 80s in some areas. Both Boston and Philadelphia have declared emergencies in order to provide resources to residents and open cooling sites. In New York City, Mayor Eric Adams warned residents to take caution since days of heat indexes exceeding 100 degrees have been forecast. Other places, like Rhode Island and Kentucky have extended hours at pools and water park facilities due to the extreme heat. CNN reports that the heat is also impacting the power infrastructure in many parts of the U.S, including PJM Interconnection, the nation's largest power supplier.
