The augmented reality animation is the work of Dubai-based creative social media agency Eye Studio who say they put a giant Barbie next to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, to “celebrate” the “timeless legacy” of the popular Mattel doll. The animated digital Barbie sculpture also pays tribute to the doll’s first-ever 1959 iteration. The Barbie film, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, has towered over its box office rivals, much as Eye Studio’s digital sculpture towers over Dubai. In its opening three-day weekend it took an astonishing $337 million (£260 million) at the global box office - smashing several records along the way. As for Eye Studio, their team is happy to have brought joy to fans of what has now become a pink-saturated global phenomenon.
