Headline: RAW VIDEO: Record-Breaking Floods Turn Austria's Famous Gasteinerfall Waterfall Into Rock-Breaking Torrent

Caption: This video footage and these images show the world-famous Gasteinerfall waterfall in the spa town of Bad Gastein in Salzburg, Austria, on Monday (28August2023), after heavy rainfall caused flash flooding and turned it into a torrent . The footage, streamed live by local tour guide Ronny Katsch shows huge volumes of muddy water flowing down the scenic waterfall. In a follow-up post including images, he documented how the flow of the water was so strong it had broken a rock at the bottom of the waterfall. One image shows the rock in flood in July 2021, while the other shows it during Monday’s flooding - showing that its left flank had disappeared. “The large rock in the waterfall of Bad Gastein has lost its left flank. In pic of flood in 17. July 2021 you can still see the significant tonne-heavy flank coming out, but the magnitude of the flood is now 28,” he wrote. “August 2023, these tons of rock just ripped off and, as you can imagine, laid at the bottom of this spillway so that now the water runs over a new barrier, as you can clearly see with the new wave. Already on my first videos on 28.08. I noticed that there is huge pressure here during this narrowing and at about 11:30 a.m. this rock was pushed away in an earthquake-like manner. I heard and felt this (on the) "glass" in my office by the waterfall.” Flood warnings and a red rain warning were in place in parts of Austria on Monday, with 100-year-highs reached at rivers in at least two places, according to Austrian broadcaster ORF.
