He posted a picture of his mug shot that was taken after being booked at Fulton County Jail in Georgia for charges related to 2020 election interference. He was released that same day on a $200,000 bond. Trump's account was previously suspended in January 2021 after the events of Jan. 6. Following Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter, Trump's account was reinstated on Nov. 19. Trump previously said he'd rather stick to his own social media platform, Truth Social. But the opportunity to share his mug shot with the masses was apparently too great, so Trump took advantage of the fact that he has over 85 million followers on the platform. The former president's latest tweet garnered over 14 million views in less than an hour. Reuters reports that Trump is seemingly using the mug shot to try to get more donations for his 2024 presidential campaign. The image is also featured on his campaign website.
