Headline: UNCAPTIONED: FDA Approves Generic ADHD Drugs

Caption: FDA Approves Generic ADHD Drugs. The FDA has approved generic versions of Vyvanse for the first time, 'The Hill' reports. The new medications can treat ADHD in people ages six and up. They can also be used for "binge-eating disorder in adults," 'The Hill' reports. Approval of the generic medications comes as the U.S. continues to experience a shortage of Adderall, which is commonly used to treat ADHD. The shortage was first announced by the FDA in October 2022. According to the CDC, ADHD prescriptions surged amid the pandemic as more people turned to telehealth care. The unexpected demand, manufacturing issues and limited supplies of drug ingredients have contributed to the shortage, 'The Hill' reports. Since ADHD drugs are classified as controlled substances, the FDA and DEA limit how much of the medicine can be produced each year. But the increased demand and limited supply have prompted calls for the threshold to be raised. Earlier this month, the FDA and DEA said they are "working closely with numerous manufacturers, agencies and others in the supply chain to understand, prevent and reduce the impact of these shortages.” THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
