NBC reports that Conservative Justice Clarence Thomas has disclosed trips paid for by billionaire friend Harlan Crow amid a renewed focus on ethics in the Supreme Court. Thomas noted that in 2022, Crow paid for him to travel to a Conservative conference in Dallas. The May 2022 event was reportedly held at a facility owned by Crow's real estate company and featured Thomas as a speaker. According to notes attached to Thomas' report, due to increased security concerns, he flew to the event on a private jet. In July of 2022, Thomas said that Crow also paid for a trip to the Adirondacks in New York State. NBC reports that members of the Supreme Court have come under increased scrutiny for alleged lapses in ethics following a report by ProPublica. The ProPublica report details years of lavish trips provided for Thomas by Crow, a GOP donor, that were not revealed in previous financial disclosure reports. A similar financial disclosure by Conservative Justice Samuel Alito revealed trips paid for by Duke Law School and Notre Dame Law School. In May, Chief Justice John Roberts acknowledged that more needed to be done to oversee ethics in the nation's highest court.
