Iran Admits Serious Damage to Nuclear Sites Amid U.S. and Israeli Strikes. Iran’s foreign minister confirmed “excessive and serious” damage to the country's nuclear sites after recent U.S. and Israeli bombings. The Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran is currently assessing the extent of the damage to the sites. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei previously downplayed the impact, claiming the strikes did not disrupt Iran’s nuclear program. Khamenei called U.S. President Trump’s claim that the strikes “obliterated” three nuclear sites an exaggeration. Despite Khamenei's assurances, foreign minister Abbas Araghchi’s comments suggest significant setbacks for Iran’s nuclear efforts. Araghchi also stated there are no plans to resume nuclear talks with the U.S., following Iran’s cancellation of the sixth round of talks due to Israeli attacks. The Trump administration has proposed aiding Iran’s civilian nuclear program in exchange for nuclear talks, but recent developments may hinder this effort. Iran’s parliament passed a bill to halt cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), restricting nuclear site inspections. Israel maintains its offensive was necessary to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, though Iran insists its nuclear program is for civilian purposes. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with Iran’s health ministry reporting 610 deaths from Israeli airstrikes, while Israel reported 28 fatalities.
