Headline: UNCAPTIONED: Rep. George Santos Faces 10 New Federal Charges

Caption: Rep. George Santos Faces 10 New Federal Charges. On October 10, federal prosecutors accused Rep. George Santos of donor identity theft and fraudulent charges made on donor credit cards. CNN reports that the charges include allegations that Santos embezzled cash from his company and falsified donation totals to meet fundraising targets. The new charges against Santos, which are wider in scope, bring the total number of indictments against him to 23. The latest indictment against the New York representative comes one week after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted. The charges against Santos also come just days after his former treasurer, Nancy Marks, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States. "I filed a first quarter 2022 report stating that $500,000 was loaned to the campaign by co-conspirator #1 and the money was not received at the time." "As campaign treasurer, I knew that the loan had not been made at the time." Nancy Marks, Former Treasurer for George Santos, via CNN. In May, 35-year-old Santos pleaded not guilty to 13 federal charges, which included wire fraud, money laundering and theft of public funds. The initial charges also included two counts of making false statements to the U.S. House of Representatives. Following his arraignment earlier this year, the congressman blasted the indictment, calling it a "witch hunt," while stressing that he has been "compliant throughout this entire process”.
