Headline: UNCAPTIONED: Steve Scalise Withdraws From House Speaker Race

Caption: In a closed-door meeting on Oct. 12, Scalise told his colleagues that he is no longer running for the position, NBC News reports. His announcement, which he later confirmed to the press, comes one day after being nominated for the job by the GOP. "I just shared with my colleagues that I’m withdrawing my name as candidate for the speaker designee.", Scalise will still serve as majority leader, NBC News reports. "Our conference still has to come together and is not there. There are still some people that have their own agendas.", "This House of Representatives needs a speaker, and we need to open up the House again.", "But clearly, not everybody is there. And there’re still schisms that have to get resolved.", House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, via statement. Some Republicans feel that the process should move forward with Rep. Jim Jordan, who lost the GOP nomination to Scalise by a vote of 113-99. "I voted for Jim Jordan in the conference election yesterday and I remain committed to doing everything I can to help elect him the next Speaker of the House.", Rep. Jim Banks, via statement. However, others aren't as supportive of Jordan, and it's not clear if he could secure the votes needed to assume the position. The House turmoil comes as former Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted at the beginning of the month THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
