Apple Shifts iPhone Production Away from China Amid Tariff Pressure. Apple is moving much of its production for U.S. markets out of China, responding to President Donald Trump’s ongoing tariff policies. CEO Tim Cook says most iPhones headed to the U.S. will now be made in India while Vietnam will take over manufacturing for iPads and Apple Watches. Despite some tech products being spared, Apple estimates U.S. import tariffs will still add $900 million to its costs this quarter. The Trump administration has long pushed for Apple to bring production back to American soil. On a Thursday investor call, Cook highlighted Apple’s U.S. plans including $500 billion in investments across several states over the next four years.
