Brother Marquis of 2 Live Crew Dead at 58. The rapper's death was confirmed by the group's manager on June 3, 'USA Today' reports. A cause of death has yet to be revealed. 2 Live Crew member Uncle Luke took to X to pay tribute to Brother Marquis. "My Condolence goes out to the Family of Brother Marquis and so many of his Fans from around the World after learning his passing." "We took on so many fights for the culture (and) made Great music together something I would never forget." 2 Live Crew's 1989 album, 'As Nasty As They Wanna Be,' made history as the country's "first legally obscene album," 'USA Today' reports. Following the ruling, southern Florida made it illegal to sell the album, but that ruling was later overturned. The group's fourth album, 'Banned in the U.S.A.,' was the first album to contain the "parental advisory explicit content" label. 2 Live Crew is presently embroiled in a legal battle with Lil Joe Records over rights to their music, 'USA Today' reports. "We had recently got back together to take on another fight to get back our catalog that was stolen from us. We will continue that fight in his name for his Family." "The Brother Marquis that I know would want us to celebrate his life (and) that's exactly what I'm gonna do. R.I.P My Brother.", Uncle Luke, via X.
