China Condemns US Tariffs on India, Calls for Cooperation. Beijing has strongly criticized the United States for imposing steep tariffs on India, calling the move a form of bullying. Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said the US, long a beneficiary of free trade is now using tariffs as a bargaining tool to demand “exorbitant prices” from other countries. The tariffs, which could reach up to 50%, are set to take effect on August 27. The measures follow earlier penalties on India over its oil and weapons purchases from Russia. China has urged greater cooperation between India and itself warning that silence only strengthens the US’s aggressive approach. India defends its purchases of Russian crude, saying it is necessary to secure affordable energy for millions of citizens amid global price rises and noting that previous US guidance had encouraged such imports to stabilize energy markets.
