Rice water, "tadpole water" and green tea have all been touted as weight-loss methods on the video-sharing platform. Is there any legitimacy to these claims? Phil Day, Superintendent Pharmacist at Pharmacy2U, has the answers. Rice water. There have been rumours that drinking discarded rice water can help you lose weight. "While there have been millions of posts relating to the trend, there isn't actually any evidence or studies that prove rice water can help with weight loss. If it is working for people then it's likely because the starchy water is helping people feel fuller, thus helping them to cut down on other foods.". Tadpole water. Tadpole water - a mix of chia seeds, lemon juice and water - is said to aid weight loss. "There are studies that look into the link between chia seeds and weight loss, and some do show promising results that it can induce weight loss, which is likely due to the high fibre content.”. "Other benefits for chia seeds is that they are a fantastic source of vitamins, minerals and fibre which can help with bowel health, blood pressure, and gut health, and they can easily be incorporated into your diet to take advantage of these benefits.". Green tea. Green tea has been popular for a number of years, but some people now believe that drinking it every day can help them slim down. "There are studies that show green tea can help you lose weight, but in these cases the weight loss is very small and therefore it shouldn't be used as a weight loss treatment for people who are overweight or obese.”. The most effective way to lose weight is to exercise regularly and eat a healthy, balanced diet. "Having a balanced diet and regularly exercising is the best way to manage weight but it's not always possible or enough for some people," he advises. "If that's the case, it's important to consult a doctor or your GP as they can provide you with appropriate options that suit your lifestyle and health profile and don't affect any other medication you may be on.".
