Bali Flights Disrupted as Indonesian Volcano Erupts. A major volcanic eruption in Indonesia has caused significant flight disruptions to and from Bali. Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, located on the nearby island of Flores, erupted Tuesday afternoon—blasting ash more than 11 kilometers into the air. No casualties have been reported so far, but authorities have issued the highest alert level and warned locals to steer clear of a 7-kilometer danger zone. Over 20 flights, including international services from Air India, Singapore Airlines, and Virgin Australia, have been cancelled. Several domestic AirAsia flights to Flores were also grounded. Indonesia's disaster agency says at least one village has been evacuated, and ash has fallen in several others. Officials also warn of possible mudflows if heavy rains hit the area. Lewotobi Laki-Laki last erupted in May. The volcano is part of Indonesia's seismically active "Ring of Fire," home to frequent quakes and eruptions.
