Sovereignty Triumphs in the 151st Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. Sovereignty clinched victory in the 151st Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The Derby, America’s longest-running major sporting event, featured its signature pageantry and traditions, including Simone Biles calling "riders up.” After a rainy morning, 147,406 spectators watched as 19 horses competed on the muddy track in cool, overcast conditions. Early frontrunners Citizen Bull and Neoequos set the pace, but Sovereignty found its rhythm later in the race. As the final turn approached, Sovereignty and Journalism surged forward, neck-and-neck, with Sovereignty pulling ahead to finish a length and a half ahead. Baeza finished third, a neck behind Journalism, following the leaders in the final stretch. Sovereignty, a 9-1 favorite, was trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Junior Alvarado, who celebrated his first Derby win. Alvarado credited Sovereignty for the victory, calling it “more than a dream come true” for him and his family. Bill Mott reflected on his second career Derby win, emphasizing Sovereignty's talent and the support of his team.
