Russia Reportedly Strikes Central Kyiv With Cluster-Warhead Ballistic Missile. Russia reportedly struck central Kyiv with an Iskander ballistic missile carrying a cluster warhead designed to cause casualties across a wide area, according to a Ukrainian presidential adviser. Ukrainian presidential adviser Serhii Beskrestnov said the K5 warhead detonates above ground and disperses 58 explosive submunitions across an area of around 400 by 400 metres. Beskrestnov accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilians and Kyiv's historic Old Town rather than pursuing a military objective. At least two people were killed and 34 others injured, including five children, during the wider overnight assault, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Residential areas, transport facilities and medical infrastructure were damaged as missiles and drones struck Kyiv and the surrounding region in several waves. Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 210 drones and 21 missiles, with Ukrainian forces intercepting 181 of the drones. The bombardment came hours after U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff met Russian President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg as Washington pursued renewed efforts to end the war. During the visit, Witkoff described Putin as a "humanitarian", despite the Russian president being wanted by the International Criminal Court over alleged war crimes.
