First U.S. Casualties Reported as Trump Expands Iran Campaign. The U.S. military has confirmed the first American casualties in President Donald Trump’s escalating conflict with Iran, as operations enter their second day. Three U.S. troops were killed and five seriously wounded, with additional minor injuries reported. Two U.S. officials told Reuters the fatalities occurred at a base in Kuwait. It marks the first American deaths in major combat operations since Trump returned to office. The U.S. says it has struck more than 1,000 Iranian targets so far, including underground missile facilities hit by B-2 stealth bombers. Trump claimed 48 Iranian leaders have been killed and that nine Iranian warships have been destroyed, with more targeted. He warned the campaign could last up to four weeks, saying more casualties are possible. Meanwhile, a Ipsos poll found just 27% of Americans support the strikes, while 43% oppose them. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said a temporary leadership council has taken over following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as uncertainty grows over what comes next.
