Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Ends Lease on Crown Estate Property. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has decided to end his lease on East Lodge, a Crown Estate property near his former home at Sunninghill Park in Berkshire, according to BBC reports. The 19th-century, Grade II-listed cottage had been used for staff accommodation and was leased to the former prince at an annual rent of nearly £13,000. Last year, Mountbatten-Windsor moved out of Royal Lodge in Windsor due to his connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, although he has denied any wrongdoing. East Lodge, located between Windsor and Ascot, had remained under Mountbatten-Windsor’s tenancy since 1998, with rent rising from £3,500 to £12,922 over the years. The termination of the lease follows increased public scrutiny of Andrew’s finances and his links to Epstein, with MPs preparing to examine royal leases as part of an inquiry later this year. The Crown Estate confirmed receiving a request to end the lease early in 2023, following a Freedom of Information request by the BBC about the property. The lease, which was originally due to end in July 2027, will now be terminated early, although the timeline depends on arrangements for the current occupants. Mountbatten-Windsor recently moved to Sandringham, Norfolk, to live in a property owned by King Charles III, with no cost to the public.
