This severely singed Ukrainian cat had a scarcely credible escape from a shahed drone strike on an apartment building in Kyiv overnight on Wednesday (07May2025).


The strike killed two people, reportedly an elderly lady who had taken in 10 cats and her son. The bodies of two people and five cats were found at the scene, according to rescuers.


However, one cat was found with severe burns and was rescued and taken to hospital.


Volunteers from the Kyiv Animal Rescue Group said in a statement: “Bodies of two people and five cats were found at the scene. Outside, under the window, our rescuers found a living, very burned cat. Probably got thrown by a blast wave.

“The cat is urgently hospitalised by the KARG rescuers with burns on most of the body and a severe injury to the lungs. As of now, he is in the oxygen chamber of the ICU clinic.

They added: “This cat lost its home and family, almost lost its life. Pls help us save him. Any donations will be appreciated.”

Ending their message, the animal rescuers continued, sadly: “Since there were 10 cats in the apartment, our rescuers returned to the scene of the tragedy and continue the search.”
