As Tesla Lags, Volvo Hits 5,000 Electric Truck Sales. While Tesla’s long-promised Semi has struggled to gain traction, Volvo Trucks has quietly surged ahead selling its 5,000th electric truck since launching its first model in 2019. With eight different models available, Volvo is far outpacing Tesla, which has reportedly produced just 140 Semis since 2022. Volvo’s electric trucks are now operating in 50 countries, with top markets including Germany, the U.S., the Netherlands, and Norway. The company leads Europe’s heavy electric truck segment for the fifth straight year, holding a 47% market share. In North America, Volvo captured over 40% of the electric truck market in 2024—solidifying its place as a global leader in electric freight.
