Ministers initially resisted publishing the documents, citing concerns over national security and diplomatic relations. A compromise was later reached, allowing sensitive material to be reviewed by the Intelligence and Security Committee before publication. The first batch of files, released in March, revealed that Prime Minister Keir Starmer had been warned that Mandelson’s links to Epstein posed a reputational risk before his appointment was confirmed.
