EU Unveils Plan to Cut Russian Energy Imports by 2027. The European Commission has released a roadmap to end the EU’s reliance on Russian energy by the end of 2027. The plan includes banning all imports of Russian gas and liquefied natural gas, as well as phasing out nuclear fuel and oil from Russia. Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen said the move ensures Europe will no longer help fill the Kremlin’s war chest or be vulnerable to energy blackmail. In response, the Kremlin accused the EU of “shooting itself in the foot”. Member states will be required to submit national strategies starting in June, focusing on energy efficiency, renewables, and supply diversification. The pledge follows Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
