Toyota Launches New Software System with Revamped RAV4. Toyota unveiled the latest version of the RAV4 on Wednesday, featuring the Arene software development platform for the first time. The new software platform powers the RAV4’s multimedia system, including the cockpit voice agent, center display, and advanced safety features. Simon Humphries, Toyota's chief branding officer, described the RAV4 as the start of the company's journey into building software-defined vehicles. Launched in 1994, the RAV4 has become one of Toyota's most popular models, selling over a million units worldwide in the past year. The sixth-generation RAV4 will be available in North America, Japan, and Europe by March 2026, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. Plug-in hybrid versions of the RAV4 will feature a 150 km (93 miles) battery-only range. Toyota is considering shifting RAV4 production to the United States to mitigate the impact of U.S. tariffs on imported vehicles. Currently, the RAV4 is produced in Kentucky, Japan, and Canada. Despite the consideration, Toyota has not yet confirmed any changes to its supply chain strategy. Toyota’s new approach marks a shift in how the company integrates software into its vehicles, paving the way for future developments.
