NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated, "This does not appear to be a random act of violence," citing the gunman’s calculated approach and apparent wait for Thompson. After the shooting, the assailant fled on an electric bike into Central Park, eluding authorities. Drones, helicopters, and K9 units are now part of the manhunt. While the motive remains unclear, Thompson's wife revealed he had been receiving threats, potentially linked to disputes over insurance coverage. UnitedHealthcare, the largest Medicare Advantage provider, proceeded with its investor conference initially but later canceled events and removed leadership photos from its website.
